Algerian Cultural Minister Emphasizes the Role of Knowledge in National Development

Soraya Moulougi, the Minister of Culture, recently highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of reading and knowledge in Algeria through the establishment of the Book Forum. This initiative aims to activate the strategy for promoting reading and books in Algeria while also reviewing its activities and aligning its programs with the aspirations of the Algerian people.

During her supervision of the opening ceremony of the Book Forum at the Orassi Hotel, Moulougi explained that this occasion was not just about showcasing new publications but also about creating a space for dialogue, discussion, and critique. Such an environment contributes to the development of a thriving cultural atmosphere.

Minister Moulougi commended the role of civil society in making reading a daily habit for young people. This, in turn, leads to excellent academic achievements and the discovery of new talents. She emphasized the need for effective investment in digital reading and technological resources.

Moulougi stated, “We are witnessing the realization of a dream that is deeply rooted in the Algerian identity. Regardless of the naysayers, history has witnessed the contributions of Algerian sons and daughters to human knowledge. They have always stood up for human dignity, called for love and peace, and triumphed in uplifting people’s spirits.”

As the top official in the cultural sector in Algeria, Moulougi explained that the purpose of the Book Forum is to promote these values and push them forward in the national cultural scene. It aims to be a continuous path towards prosperity and development.

She added, “This goal aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s major commitments. He believes in the leading role of knowledge, culture, and arts in building individuals and nations and achieving the desired development in our beloved country.”

On this occasion, the Minister called upon the media to contribute to the realization of the noble objectives of this educational and cultural space. She urged them to elevate this effort and spread its message to the Algerian public.
