President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon has strongly condemned what he describes as ongoing Israeli aggression, particularly the recent strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs. He emphasized that this attack, coinciding with Lebanon’s Independence Day, demonstrates a disregard for international calls to cease hostilities.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, President Aoun stated that the attack proves Israel “does not heed the repeated calls to stop its attacks on Lebanon and refuses to implement international resolutions and all efforts and initiatives put forward to end the escalation and restore stability not only to Lebanon but to the entire region.”
“Lebanon, which has adhered to the cessation of hostilities for nearly a year now, and has presented initiative after initiative, renews its call to the international community to assume its responsibility and intervene forcefully and seriously to stop the attacks on Lebanon and its people,” President Aoun urged, “in order to prevent any deterioration that would restore tension to the region, on the one hand, and to prevent further bloodshed, on the other.”
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s emergency center released a preliminary report stating that an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs earlier today resulted in one fatality and 21 injuries.
The Lebanese government views these attacks as a severe threat to regional stability and calls for immediate international intervention to de-escalate the situation and prevent further loss of life. The President’s statement underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for a swift and decisive response from the global community. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
