Geneva – Following discussions with Ukrainian and European officials in Geneva, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed significant optimism regarding President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Secretary Rubio stated, “I believe we have made substantial progress.” He added, “I am very optimistic that we will reach our goal in a very reasonable timeframe, very soon.” The Secretary’s remarks suggest a potential breakthrough in ongoing efforts to broker a lasting peace agreement.
Earlier on Sunday, Secretary Rubio described the talks as “probably the most productive and important thus far in this entire process.” However, he acknowledged that “there is still work to be done.” While details of the plan remain confidential, the positive tone from the US delegation indicates a growing consensus among key stakeholders.
Adding to the sense of progress, Andriy Yermak, the chief Ukrainian negotiator and head of the Presidential Office, stated, “We have made very good progress, and we are moving forward towards the just and lasting peace that the Ukrainian people deserve.” Yermak’s comments reinforce the notion that a viable path to de-escalation and resolution is emerging.
The ongoing diplomatic efforts represent a critical step towards achieving stability and security in the region. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as they become available. The next steps in the negotiation process are expected to be crucial in determining the ultimate success of the peace initiative.
