Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has rejected a peace proposal presented by U.S. Presidential Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Mosaad Boulos. Al-Burhan, in a meeting with military officers, described the proposal as “the worst ever presented,” insisting that any solution must adhere to the roadmap previously outlined by the Sovereignty Council.
Al-Burhan also criticized the Quartet mediating the Sudanese conflict, claiming their neutrality was compromised. He asserted that the Boulos proposal effectively dismantles the armed forces, dissolves all security apparatuses, and allows rebel militias to maintain control over occupied territories. He further warned that if the mediation continues under Boulos’s framework, it would be considered biased and unacceptable.
“We fear that Mosaad Boulos is an obstacle to the peace that all the people of Sudan seek,” Al-Burhan stated, adding that Boulos’s pronouncements mirrored the rhetoric of the ‘Resilience and Foundation Alliance’ and the militias. He affirmed the military’s determination to reclaim all territories desecrated by the rebellion in Kordofan and Darfur.
Al-Burhan reiterated the necessity of the militias’ withdrawal and their concentration in areas agreed upon with a neutral mediator. He stated that a ceasefire is contingent upon the militias’ complete withdrawal from all areas seized after the Jeddah agreement.
Army Repels Attack on Babnusa
On the ground, the Sudanese army has reportedly repelled a major offensive launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the strategic city of Babnusa in West Kordofan. Sources within the military claim the army inflicted significant casualties and equipment losses on the attacking forces.
Elsewhere in Kordofan, a military source stated that the army and its supporting forces have achieved significant victories, and that ongoing battles are progressing according to plan. The army had previously secured the strategic Umm Sumaima area, linking North and West Kordofan, and advanced towards the city of al-Khawi in West Kordofan.
