Algeria is bracing for a period of intense weather, with heavy rainfall, snowfall, and significantly colder temperatures expected across several northern provinces. According to meteorological models, the adverse weather conditions will persist from today, Tuesday, through Thursday, with a gradual stabilization anticipated by Friday.
Heavy rainfall, ranging from 50 to 60 millimeters, is predicted for northern regions. Snowfall is expected in areas with elevations between 800 and 1400 meters. The provinces expected to experience the heaviest rainfall starting Tuesday morning include Oran, Sidi Bel Abbes, Relizane, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Blida, Medea, and Bouira.
On Wednesday, the forecast indicates thunderstorms for central and eastern regions, encompassing Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Tipaza, Boumerdes, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf. Snowfall is also anticipated on the higher ground of Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, and Setif, specifically at altitudes between 1000 and 1400 meters.
The snow level is expected to descend to between 800 and 900 meters on Thursday in eastern highlands, such as Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, and Bouira. Heavy rain will continue to batter the eastern provinces, including Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Setif, Constantine, and Bordj Bou Arreridj, with intermittent showers elsewhere.
The Algerian Meteorological Office also forecasts cold and frosty conditions. Morning and nighttime temperatures in the north are expected to range between -3 and 0 degrees Celsius, while coastal areas will experience temperatures between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius. The interior regions will see a notable drop in temperatures during the afternoon.
