Putin, Erdogan Discuss Ukraine Peace Plan in Phone Call

Moscow, DZWatch News – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation on Monday to discuss a proposed peace plan for Ukraine, according to reports.

The Kremlin stated that Putin indicated that the proposals, as reviewed by Moscow, align with discussions held during the Russia-US summit in Alaska. He suggested that they “could, in principle, serve as a basis for a final peaceful resolution” to the conflict.

“We reiterated the Russian side’s interest in a political and diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis,” the Kremlin added.

Erdogan reportedly informed Putin of his readiness to support the peace process in any way possible and proposed holding talks in Istanbul. The city previously hosted three rounds of peace negotiations between the warring parties earlier this year.

According to the Turkish Presidency, Erdogan told Putin during the call that Ankara would contribute to any diplomatic effort aimed at facilitating direct communication between Russia and Ukraine and achieving a “just and lasting” peace.

This development underscores ongoing international efforts to mediate a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. The dialogue between Putin and Erdogan highlights Turkey’s continued role as a potential facilitator in the peace process. Further details are expected as discussions progress.
