Constantine, Algeria – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has affirmed that Algeria has achieved significant progress in a short period, despite facing what he described as attempts to derail the nation’s advancement. Speaking at a meeting with civil society representatives in Constantine, President Tebboune emphasized the resilience of the ‘New Algeria’ project.
President Tebboune stated that despite the ‘battles and rumors’ encountered during the initial years of his presidential term, those seeking to undermine Algeria’s progress have failed. He highlighted the tangible achievements made across various sectors within a compressed timeframe.
In a televised address, President Tebboune announced the imminent commencement of operations for several key projects, including the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine and the Bled El Hadba phosphate project. He expressed optimism that Algeria would experience a new and decisive phase of development in the coming year, leading to lasting stability.
Addressing the economic situation, President Tebboune asserted that the economy is under control and that all economic indicators are positive. He noted that Algeria has avoided external debt, even amidst fluctuating global oil prices, assuring citizens that the government has taken necessary precautions.
The President also announced an upcoming visit to Bechar to oversee a historic ceremony marking the arrival of iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mine via the Tindouf-Bechar railway, a first since independence. He highlighted the rapid completion of the approximately 1,000-kilometer railway line in just one and a half years, and announced plans for another railway line to transport phosphate to Annaba.
President Tebboune emphasized that these projects will significantly increase phosphate production from 2.5 million tons to 10.5 million tons annually. He stressed the importance of fertilizer and mineral production, stating that they are the ‘new weapons’ in the global arena. He affirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening these sectors and continuing efforts to improve production capacity.
