The Algerian government convened on Monday under the leadership of Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib to examine draft executive and presidential decrees and to review the progress of major strategic investment projects.
A central focus of the meeting was the review of a draft executive decree outlining the conditions and procedures for approving electronic communications equipment. This decree is designed to implement Law No. 18-04, dated May 10, 2018, which establishes the general rules governing postal and telecommunications services. The draft aims to ensure that electronic communications equipment complies with applicable standards and specifications, particularly in areas related to user safety and health, the protection of electronic communications networks, and interoperability.
The government also initiated a review of a draft presidential decree concerning the national data governance system. This initiative aligns with President’s instructions regarding the national digital transformation strategy, specifically concerning the interconnection of various public bodies and administrations and the creation of a national digital database. This decree establishes a clear, comprehensive, and practical legal framework for the national data governance system, affirming the state’s sovereignty over data of national interest and ensuring the organized, secure, and transparent management of public data.
Finally, the government received a progress report on the implementation of major strategic investment projects, specifically the western and eastern mining railway projects. These projects include the railway linking Bechar and Tindouf over a distance of 575 km, as part of the Gara Djebilet project, and the railway linking Annaba and Djebel El Anq in Tebessa over a distance of 422 km, as part of the integrated phosphate project. The government is closely monitoring the advancement of these crucial infrastructure developments.
