Pakistani Airstrikes in Afghanistan Reportedly Kill 10

At least 10 people have reportedly been killed following airstrikes carried out by Pakistani military aircraft in Afghanistan early Tuesday morning, according to Afghan government sources. The strikes targeted locations within the country’s southeastern provinces.

A government official stated that the fatalities included women and children in the Khost province. The official further indicated that the airstrike focused on the Karbiz district.

Additionally, reports indicate that four people were injured in a separate strike in Paktia province, also located in southeastern Afghanistan.

An Afghan government spokesperson alleged that these actions by Islamabad violate a ceasefire agreement recently reached during talks held in Istanbul.

These airstrikes follow a recent attack that resulted in the deaths of three Pakistani security personnel. The attack occurred at a police station near the border with Afghanistan, specifically in a populated area near an army camp in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which borders Afghanistan. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The region has experienced previous attacks attributed to the Pakistani Taliban. These incidents have strained relations between Pakistan and the Afghan government. Islamabad has accused Kabul of allowing the Pakistani Taliban to operate freely within Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
