Algiers, Algeria – Renowned Algerian actress Baya Bouzar, widely known as Biyouna, passed away this morning at the age of 73. The celebrated artist succumbed to complications from lung cancer.
Biyouna had been receiving treatment at the Beni Messous hospital in Algiers. Recent reports indicated a deterioration in her health due to insufficient oxygen reaching the brain.
Born on September 13, 1952, in Belouizdad, Algiers, Biyouna was a prominent figure in both Algerian and European theater and cinema. Her stage name, Biyouna, was a diminutive of her given name, Baya, affectionately bestowed upon her by her family.
Biyouna leaves behind a significant legacy in Algerian drama. She is remembered for her memorable roles in numerous acclaimed productions, including the film El Dar El Kebira (The Big House), the television series El Millionaire (The Millionaire) and Edamma (The Game), and the popular sitcom Nass Mlah City (Good People City). Her contributions have left an indelible mark on the Algerian entertainment industry.
