Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Snowfall Expected

Algiers, November 25, 2025 – Algeria is bracing for a period of intense weather conditions, with heavy thunderstorms, strong winds, and significant snowfall expected across various regions. The national meteorological service has issued a series of alerts, warning residents to prepare for potentially disruptive conditions.

Beginning today, Tuesday, several coastal and inland provinces are forecast to experience heavy thunderstorms, with rainfall accumulations potentially reaching up to 50 millimeters. The affected regions include Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Blida, Medea, Boumerdes, and Bouira. The alert is in effect from 10:00 AM today until 9:00 PM tomorrow, Wednesday.

A more severe weather warning has been issued for Tizi Ouzou, Setif, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf. These provinces could see rainfall exceeding 60 millimeters between midday today and Wednesday evening. Residents in these areas are urged to exercise extreme caution.

Furthermore, thunderstorms are expected to impact the provinces of Relizane, Mostaganem, Mascara, Oran, Ain Temouchent, Ain Defla, Mila, Constantine, and Guelma, starting at 9:00 AM today and continuing until dawn on Wednesday.

In addition to the heavy rain, strong winds are predicted to sweep through Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf from midday Tuesday until 6:00 PM. Residents should secure loose objects and be aware of potential hazards related to high winds.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, snowfall is anticipated in the central and eastern highlands, particularly in Jijel, Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, Mila, Setif, Bouira, Oum El Bouaghi, and Batna. Significant snow accumulation is expected in areas above 800 meters in altitude.
