Russia, Ukraine Reportedly Exchange ‘Wide-Scale Attacks’

Kyiv, Ukraine – Both Russia and Ukraine are reporting large-scale attacks on their territories, escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict. Russian officials claim Ukraine launched a widespread assault on several southern regions. Simultaneously, Ukrainian authorities reported a new series of ‘massive’ Russian strikes targeting critical energy infrastructure and the capital city, Kyiv.

Explosions rocked Kyiv as air raid alerts sounded across the country early Tuesday morning. Authorities reported at least six fatalities and multiple injuries. Ukraine’s Air Force issued a statement on Telegram, warning of a nationwide missile threat. The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Timur Tkachenko, also indicated the presence of ballistic missile threats.

According to Tkachenko, ‘Shahed’ drones and cruise missiles were detected in the airspace, along with the potential for ballistic and Kinzhal missile launches. Residents were urged to seek shelter immediately. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed disruptions to water and power supplies throughout the capital.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy stated that a ‘massive enemy attack on energy facilities’ was underway. The Ministry added that energy workers would begin assessing damages and commencing repairs as soon as the security situation allowed. Since the beginning of the war in 2022, Russia has systematically targeted Ukrainian power generation facilities, resulting in persistent power outages. This year has seen an intensification of attacks, including those targeting gas infrastructure.

Conversely, Russian regional governor Yuri Slyusar claimed that at least three people were killed and eight injured in a Ukrainian attack on the city of Taganrog and the neighboring Niklinovsky district, located on the Sea of Azov in the Rostov region. Authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region, bordering the Black Sea, also reported widespread Ukrainian aerial attacks on several cities.

Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that the Krasnodar region had been subjected to a significant attack overnight.
