Arab Parliamentary Union Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Rights

Algiers – The Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting women’s rights and eradicating all forms of violence against them. This declaration underscores the APU’s dedication to fostering a society where women are safe, empowered, and able to fully participate in all aspects of life.

The announcement was made by Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly and President of the Arab Parliamentary Union. He emphasized the APU’s role in championing the cause of women’s rights across the Arab world, aligning its efforts with international and regional initiatives aimed at eliminating gender-based violence.

“The Arab Parliamentary Union recognizes the crucial role women play in the development and progress of our societies,” stated Mr. Boughali. “We are committed to working with our member parliaments to enact legislation and implement policies that protect women from violence and promote their full and equal participation in all spheres of life.”

The APU’s commitment extends to supporting initiatives that address the root causes of violence against women, including promoting gender equality, challenging harmful social norms and stereotypes, and ensuring access to justice and support services for survivors of violence. The Union also pledged to work with civil society organizations and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the issue and advocate for change.

This renewed commitment comes at a critical time, as violence against women remains a significant challenge in many parts of the world. The Arab Parliamentary Union’s leadership in this area is expected to inspire further action and progress towards creating a safer and more equitable world for all women.
