Algeria and Egypt Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Algiers, DZWatch – Algeria and Egypt are deepening their strategic partnership, marked by new agreements and a renewed push for cooperation following the 9th session of the High Joint Committee. The meetings, held from November 23rd to 26th, were overseen by the Algerian Prime Minister and his Egyptian counterpart.

Ministerial preparatory meetings, co-chaired by the Algerian Minister of Industry and the Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, saw participation from various sectors of both nations. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties across a wide range of areas.

Delegations reviewed reports from technical committees and expert meetings, culminating in the formulation of new agreements and documents designed to bolster the partnership. Key areas of focus include the economy, investment, trade, and infrastructure, as well as vital sectors such as health, education, culture, and tourism.

The Algerian Minister of Industry emphasized the significant progress in Algerian-Egyptian relations in recent years. He attributed this growth to frequent high-level meetings between the presidents of both countries, particularly highlighting the Algerian President’s visits to Cairo in 2022 and 2024. These visits, he stated, accelerated the implementation of cooperative projects and the activation of existing agreements.

He also noted the increasing trade volume between the two nations, alongside the advancements made by Egyptian companies in Algerian investment projects, particularly in the construction, housing, pharmaceuticals, and education sectors. He further underscored the importance of the direct maritime route between Algiers and Alexandria ports, which has recently become operational, facilitating the transportation of goods and reducing shipping costs. This direct link is viewed as a crucial step towards enhanced economic openness between the two countries.

Key outcomes of the 9th High Joint Committee session include agreements to support cooperation in agriculture, food security, energy and electricity, housing and urban development, and local development. These initiatives signal a strong commitment to deepening economic ties and fostering mutual growth between Algeria and Egypt.
