Drug Bust in Algiers: 20 Slabs of Cannabis Seized

Algiers, October 27, 2025 – National Gendarmerie forces have successfully intercepted a drug trafficking operation in the capital, resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of processed cannabis.

According to a statement released by the National Gendarmerie, the operation was carried out by the Research and Investigation Unit of the National Gendarmerie in Cheraga, in coordination with the Special Intervention Detachment of the National Gendarmerie in Maalma. The coordinated effort led to the apprehension of two individuals suspected of distributing narcotics within the Algiers province.

The investigation was initiated following credible intelligence indicating an impending transaction involving a substantial amount of illicit substances within the Cheraga municipality. The Gendarmerie statement further details that intensified surveillance and investigative efforts led to the pinpointing of the suspects’ location.

Subsequently, a carefully planned security operation was executed, leading to the arrest of the two suspects who were traveling in a vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing approximately 20 slabs of processed cannabis, weighing a total of 2 kilograms. The vehicle used in the alleged crime has also been confiscated.

Authorities have confirmed that two additional individuals remain at large and are currently being sought in connection with the drug trafficking operation. Following the completion of all necessary legal procedures, the apprehended suspects will be presented before the competent judicial authorities for prosecution.
