DZWatch News, November 26, 2025 – The Directorate of Communication at the Presidency of the Republic has extended its deepest condolences to the family of esteemed journalist Ahcène Khelas, who passed away this morning.
Mr. Khelas, a prominent figure in Algerian media, dedicated over three decades to the profession, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s journalistic landscape. His career spanned across several national newspapers before he assumed the role of Editor-in-Chief at the national television channel, El Watania.
Most recently, he served as the producer of the political program “Observers,” a testament to his enduring commitment to insightful and engaging political discourse.
According to the Directorate of Communication, the late Mr. Khelas was renowned for his astute and incisive analysis of the political scene in Algeria. He was considered a pillar of integrity within Algerian media, and his mentorship shaped the careers of numerous journalists who attest to his wisdom and dedication to the profession.
His insightful opinion pieces, published in various prominent publications, were widely recognized and respected by the Algerian public. Mr. Khelas’s contributions to Algerian journalism will be long remembered.
