Algeria and Egypt Explore Enhanced Partnership in Energy Sector

Cairo, Egypt – Algerian Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Mostafa Esmat, in Cairo on Wednesday to discuss strengthening cooperation in the electricity and renewable energy sectors.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Algerian-Egyptian High Joint Committee, focused on reviewing existing collaborations between the two nations in electricity and new and renewable energy. Both ministers explored avenues to elevate these partnerships towards more diverse and effective collaborations, particularly in the fields of green hydrogen and energy efficiency.

Efforts are underway to develop a comprehensive cooperation agreement in energy transition and renewable energies. This agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, consultations, and experts, as well as the development of joint programs. The potential for establishing mutually beneficial projects in these promising sectors is also under consideration.

Furthermore, the ministers addressed prospects for developing cooperation in electrical interconnection between Algeria and Egypt, transiting through Tunisia and Libya. This initiative seeks to enhance energy security across the Arab and African regions and optimize investments in the construction of electrical grids.

Minister Adjal and Minister Esmat also discussed strengthening cooperation in training and human resource development in these areas, leveraging the considerable experience and capabilities of both countries in training infrastructure. The discussions highlighted the commitment of both Algeria and Egypt to advancing sustainable energy solutions and fostering regional energy security.
