Algeria and Spain to Launch New Maritime Trade Route

Skikda, Algeria – A new maritime trade route is set to connect Algeria and Spain, boosting commercial activity between the two countries. The Port Authority of Skikda announced the launch of a regular shipping line linking the Algerian port to Valencia, Spain, commencing in January 2026. This initiative aims to expand maritime operations and enhance trade through Algeria’s national ports.

The announcement follows a working session held at the port directorate, bringing together Algerian officials and representatives from “Marquiza,” the accredited partner of the global shipping company “H.M.M.” The meeting focused on the technical and organizational aspects of launching the new route, as well as mechanisms to ensure regular trips and quality container transport services between Skikda and Valencia.

According to the agreement, the route will become operational at the beginning of January 2026, with one trip per week. The shipping company will operate the route using two container ships, providing Skikda with a direct and fast connection to Mediterranean ports and strengthening its role as a key logistics gateway in eastern Algeria.

The launch of this project follows positive results from trial voyages conducted by the company at the Port of Skikda. These operations demonstrated clear efficiency in loading and unloading, reducing the time ships spend at the docks, alongside the readiness of technical teams and the use of modern equipment recently acquired by the institution. This step coincides with the expansion of the container terminal, which will increase the port’s capacity and support its growing role in maritime trade.

The new route is expected to significantly contribute to the Algerian economy by streamlining trade processes and fostering stronger ties with European markets.
