Brussels, Belgium – Nacer Boudiaf, the son of former Algerian President Mohamed Boudiaf, passed away Wednesday evening in Brussels following a battle with cancer. He was the eldest son of the late president.
The death was confirmed by his brother, El Tayeb Boudiaf, who stated that Nacer’s illness progressed rapidly. A family member also corroborated the news of his passing.
Mohamed Boudiaf, Nacer’s father, served as President of the High Council of State in Algeria before his assassination on June 29, 1992, in Annaba. His assassination remains one of the most impactful events in Algeria’s modern history. President Boudiaf was killed while delivering a live televised speech.
Following his father’s death, Nacer Boudiaf became a prominent media figure, holding press conferences and remaining active in public discourse for many years. He continued his media and political engagement from Belgium, where he resided, maintaining a presence in Algerian affairs through media outlets and social media platforms.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Condolences have begun to pour in from political and social circles within Algeria.
DZWatch extends its deepest sympathies to the Boudiaf family during this difficult time.
