Severe Weather System to Impact Northern Algeria This Sunday

A significant weather disturbance is forecast to sweep across northern Algeria starting this Sunday, bringing with it heavy rainfall, snowfall, and potential ice formation, according to meteorological reports released today. The impending system is also expected to usher in a sharp drop in temperatures across the region.

The eastern and central regions of the country are predicted to bear the brunt of the storm’s intensity. Western inland areas are also bracing for snowfall and icy conditions, contributing to an overall bitterly cold climate throughout the northern strip.

Digital weather maps indicate a noticeable decline in temperatures driven by an influx of polar air originating from Europe. Several provinces are anticipated to experience exceptionally low temperatures, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.

Recent recordings show temperatures plummeting to approximately -4 degrees Celsius in El Mecheria, Naama, and El Bayadh. Setif, Constantine, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Oum El Bouaghi have already registered -3 degrees Celsius. The high western plateaus may see temperatures dip as low as -5 degrees Celsius. Coastal areas are expected to hover between 4 and 5 degrees Celsius, while southern provinces will likely range from 1 to 5 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the western coastline is predicted to face rough sea conditions with wind speeds potentially exceeding 70 kilometers per hour and wave heights reaching up to 4.5 meters. These conditions will make maritime navigation exceedingly dangerous during this period.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to prepare for the incoming severe weather.
