Algeria to Host 7th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries in the Coming Year

the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, along with the CEO of Sonatrach, Hachichi Rachid, and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Sonatrach, will participate in the 25th ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. This meeting will be presided over by the Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea, Antonio Oburu Ondo, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Ministerial Meeting for the GECF in 2023.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, during this meeting, member ministers of the forum will focus on analyzing the international gas market’s current situation and its short-term, medium-term, and long-term prospects to ensure stability and security in supply and demand in the global natural gas markets.

The meeting will also address the ongoing preparations for the 7th Summit of Heads of States and Governments of this organization, scheduled to be held in Algeria in 2024.

The 25th ministerial meeting of the forum serves as an opportunity for exchanging views and exploring ways to strengthen the forum’s role. It also reaffirms the crucial role of natural gas as a driver of energy transition and sustainable development.

It’s worth noting that this forum was established in 2001 and transformed into an international governmental organization during its 8th non-official session in December 2008, with its headquarters located in Doha, Qatar.

Currently, the GECF has 19 member countries, including Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela as members, and Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, and Peru as observers.
