South Korea has successfully launched its domestically developed Nuri rocket, carrying 13 satellites into their designated orbits. This marks the fourth launch mission for the Nuri rocket, a significant step forward for the nation’s space program.
The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) confirmed that the 200-ton rocket lifted off from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, a coastal town in the southern part of the country. The launch was closely monitored by space enthusiasts and industry experts alike.
According to KARI, the primary satellite, CAS500-3, successfully established communication with South Korea’s research station in Antarctica. This crucial connection allowed for the verification of the satellite’s operational status and functionality.
The CAS500-3 satellite is slated to undertake a range of scientific missions, including measuring space magnetic fields and plasma. It will also be used to monitor the aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, providing valuable data for researchers.
This successful launch follows three previous attempts in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Each launch has contributed to a gradual advancement in the technological capabilities of the Nuri rocket. South Korea is planning a fifth launch in 2026, followed by a sixth in 2027, as part of an ongoing program to strengthen its presence in the space sector.
