Algeria to Host Inaugural African Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Conference

Algiers, November 27, 2025 – Algeria has been selected to host the first-ever African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production, solidifying its position as a continental leader in the pharmaceutical industry.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed on Thursday that the World Health Organization’s (WHO) choice of Algeria to host this inaugural event underscores the nation’s prominent role in advancing pharmaceutical manufacturing across Africa. The conference will focus on boosting local production of medicines and health technologies.

“This decision is a testament to Algeria’s commitment and advancements in the pharmaceutical sector,” stated President Tebboune. “We are honored to welcome leaders from across the continent to discuss strategies for enhancing local production capabilities and ensuring access to essential medicines for all Africans.”

The African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Health Technologies is expected to draw participation from ministers of health, industry experts, and representatives from international organizations. The event aims to address key challenges and opportunities in the African pharmaceutical landscape, including regulatory frameworks, technology transfer, and investment promotion.

Analysts believe that Algeria’s selection as the host country reflects its significant investments in pharmaceutical infrastructure and its dedication to fostering a robust domestic industry. The conference is anticipated to serve as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration and driving sustainable growth in the African pharmaceutical sector.

The Algerian government has expressed its commitment to ensuring the success of the conference and to working closely with African partners to achieve shared goals in pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and improved public health outcomes.
