New Technologies to Bolster East-West Highway Maintenance

The Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure is exploring the use of cutting-edge technologies to enhance the maintenance of the East-West Highway. This initiative aims to ensure the long-term durability of this vital infrastructure network.

During a working meeting chaired by the Minister of the sector, Abdelkader Djellawi, technical presentations were made showcasing modern solutions for highway maintenance. Engineers from Algerian Highways and the National Technical Control Authority for Public Works (CTTP) presented scientific and practical techniques.

One of the key techniques discussed involves reinforcing the highway with reinforced asphalt concrete. Another technique focuses on reinforcement using enhanced asphalt mixed with specialized additives. These innovative approaches are slated for implementation on sections identified as high-risk areas, notably in Djebahia, Bouzegza, and Bouderbala, as well as on the second bypass of the capital.

Minister Djellawi emphasized the crucial role played by the National Technical Control Authority for Public Works, design offices, and the Higher School of Public Works Management in proposing scientific and technical solutions. He highlighted their contribution in providing practical approaches that guarantee the solidity and longevity of the highway network, ensuring the preservation of its infrastructure.

These technological advancements represent a significant step forward in maintaining Algeria’s critical highway infrastructure, ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for all.
