Algiers, November 27, 2025 – Heavy snowfall across Algeria’s interior highlands has led to the closure of several key roads and highways, significantly impacting travel and transportation.
The National Gendarmerie’s traffic information service reports that National Route 33 is impassable between Bouira and Tizi Ouzou provinces, specifically in the areas of Tikjda (Asnames municipality) and Akouker (Bechloul municipality). Significant snow accumulation is the cause of the closure.
Similarly, National Route 30, connecting Saharidj (Bouira province) and Ouacif (Tizi Ouzou province), is blocked at Tizi N’Koulane in Saharidj. National Route 15, also linking Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is closed at the Col de Tirourda in Aghbalou municipality.
In Tizi Ouzou province, National Route 33 is closed between Boumahdi and the Asoul region. Furthermore, National Route 15 is blocked at the Tirourda Pass in the municipality of Iferhounene.
The Wilaya Route 253, a crucial link between Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia provinces, is also closed at the Challa Pass in Illilten municipality, Tizi Ouzou.
Bejaia province is experiencing disruptions as well, with National Route 26, which connects Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou, closed at the Challa Pass in Chellata municipality.
In Setif province, Wilaya Route 137A, linking El Babour and Oued El Bared, is closed due to snow. Wilaya Route 151A, connecting Ain Roua and Zaouia Sidi Hassan, is also impassable.
