Paris – The Prime Minister of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Bachir Mustapha Sayed, addressed the press in Paris today, outlining the Polisario Front’s position following the recent United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797. The Prime Minister, a key figure within the Polisario leadership, emphasized the movement’s readiness to engage in negotiations based on the framework established by the resolution.
Resolution 2797, adopted recently, reaffirms the need for negotiations between the involved parties to achieve a mutually acceptable political solution that respects the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. The Polisario Front views this resolution as a basis for renewed dialogue, provided that it adheres to international law and principles.
“We are prepared to negotiate within the parameters of Resolution 2797,” stated the Prime Minister. “However, any solution must ultimately involve the direct consultation of the Sahrawi people. The process of identifying eligible voters is crucial and must be conducted according to established international standards.”
The Prime Minister also addressed earlier drafts of Resolution 2797, clarifying the Polisario Front’s unwavering stance. “Our position is clear and firm,” he asserted. “We will not participate in any negotiations that fail to guarantee the Sahrawi people’s right to freedom and independence.”
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic has long sought self-determination for the Sahrawi people. The Polisario Front continues to advocate for a peaceful and just resolution to the Western Sahara conflict, emphasizing the importance of international law and the right to self-determination in achieving a lasting solution.
