Paris, November 28, 2025 – The 49th conference of EUCOCO (European Coordination of Support for the Sahrawi People) in Paris presents a crucial opportunity to call upon France to align its policies with international law regarding Western Sahara.
Mohamed Ali Zerouali, representative of the Polisario Front, stated that the two-day conference, taking place Friday and Saturday in the French capital, provides a platform for participants to advocate for a French stance that is fully compliant with international legal principles. The focus remains on the ongoing situation in Western Sahara.
Zerouali emphasized the importance of France, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, playing a more constructive role in facilitating a just and lasting resolution to the conflict. He argued that France’s historical ties to the region necessitate a commitment to upholding international legal standards and supporting the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
“This conference is a vital forum for raising awareness and mobilizing support for the Sahrawi cause,” Zerouali explained. “We urge all participants to use this opportunity to engage with French officials and policymakers, urging them to reconsider their approach and prioritize adherence to international law.”
The EUCOCO conference brings together activists, academics, and representatives from various organizations across Europe who are dedicated to supporting the Sahrawi people and advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Western Sahara dispute. Discussions will center on the current political and humanitarian situation, as well as strategies for increasing international pressure on Morocco to comply with UN resolutions and allow for a free and fair referendum on self-determination.
The call for France to adhere to international law is expected to be a central theme throughout the conference, with participants hoping to influence French policy and contribute to a more just and equitable outcome for the Sahrawi people.
