London Events Boost Algerian-British Partnership, Eye Agricultural Growth

London hosted a series of high-profile economic and diplomatic events this week, underscoring the strengthening ties between Algeria and the United Kingdom and paving the way for expanded cooperation, particularly in agriculture and food processing. The events included an economic forum, an exhibition, and a key meeting at the House of Lords.

During a meeting of the Algerian-British Business Council (ABBC) at the House of Lords on Thursday evening, British Trade Minister Chris Bryant reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to bolstering trade relations with Algeria. He emphasized the importance of broadening collaboration to include cultural exchanges and the sharing of expertise. Bryant also expressed his support for the task force dedicated to managing trade-related matters between the two nations.

Algeria’s Ambassador to London, Noureddine Yazid, highlighted the significant increase in trade volume, reaching £2.6 billion in the third quarter of 2025, a 3.5% increase compared to the previous year. He urged the British side to intensify trade missions to Algeria, expressing confidence that the upcoming strategic dialogue would yield further progress in bilateral cooperation.

Earlier that day, the Algerian Embassy in London organized a dedicated forum focused on the agricultural sector, themed “Algeria–United Kingdom: Towards a Sustainable Agricultural Partnership.” The forum brought together experts and institutions from both countries to explore ways to connect Algerian agriculture with British innovation. The Ambassador explained that the choice of theme reflects Algeria’s strategic focus on economic diversification and attracting investment, inviting British companies to capitalize on the vast agricultural potential, particularly in the southern regions of the country. He also affirmed the diplomatic mission’s readiness to support British investors and facilitate their procedures, contributing to a collaboration based on technology transfer and expertise.

Martin Roper, Chairman of the ABBC, lauded Algeria’s economic dynamism, expressing his country’s institutions’ keen interest in providing technological solutions in areas such as digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, soil monitoring, and supply chains.

A representative from the Ministry of Agriculture presented an overview of high-value investment opportunities in the agricultural sector, complemented by a documentary from the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency showcasing the country’s resources. This was followed by two workshops focusing on partnership, innovation, and sustainability, fostering in-depth discussions on the development of plant and animal production, clean energy, food processing, and digitization.
