CR Belouizdad endured a painful 4-1 defeat against AS Otôho d’Oyo of Congo Brazzaville on Saturday, significantly complicating their chances in the CAF Confederation Cup. The match, part of the second round of group stage matches, took place at the Alphonse Massamba-Débat Stadium in Brazzaville.
The Algerian side experienced a disastrous first half-hour, conceding three consecutive goals in the 12th, 28th, and 31st minutes. All three goals were scored by Otôho’s Ilonga, exposing a clear lack of defensive focus and poor coordination within the Belouizdad lines.
Despite substitutions made by coach Ramović, including the introduction of Ben Hamouda, Kacem, Meziane, and Belkhir, the team’s efforts to recover proved ineffective. The attack remained toothless against a solid Congolese defense.
In the 65th minute, Obimbi extended Otôho’s lead with a fourth goal. Substitute Abderrahmane Meziane managed to pull one back for CR Belouizdad from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute, but it did little to change the outcome of the match.
Despite this bitter defeat, CR Belouizdad remains temporarily at the top of their group, alongside Stellenbosch FC of South Africa and AS Otôho, with the Congolese team holding a slight goal difference advantage. Attention now turns to Sunday’s match between Sagrada Esperança of Angola and Stellenbosch (17:00), which could further reshuffle the group standings.
DZWatch will continue to provide updates on CR Belouizdad’s progress in the CAF Confederation Cup.
