Algiers – Algeria is actively reinforcing Africa’s voice and influence within continental and international forums. This commitment was underscored during a recent official visit by the President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Fortune Charumbira, to Algiers.
The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Salima Bekhta Mansouri, received President Charumbira. The visit highlights the growing diplomatic momentum between Algeria and African institutions.
The timing of the visit is particularly significant, coinciding with President Charumbira’s participation in the international conference on the criminalization of colonialism in Africa and reparations. This conference, initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and endorsed during the African Union summit in February 2025, represents a crucial step towards achieving historical justice for the people of the continent and those of African descent.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the ongoing cooperation between Algeria and the Pan-African Parliament. Discussions focused on ways to enhance the PAP’s role in advocating for Africa’s just causes.
Key issues addressed included the Palestinian cause and the Western Sahara issue. Both sides also reaffirmed their support for efforts aimed at addressing the lingering effects of colonialism and demanding reparations.
During the talks, both parties emphasized the importance of amplifying the voice of African peoples within continental structures and international platforms. This is seen as vital to strengthening the Pan-African Parliament’s position as a key mechanism for defending the continent’s aspirations for liberation, justice, and development.
