Algiers, November 30, 2025 – The national campaign for polio vaccination commenced today, under the supervision of the Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Messoudene. The launch event took place at the Public Health Institution in El Kouba, Algiers.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Health, this nationwide polio vaccination initiative aims to bolster preventative healthcare measures and enhance collective immunity among children. The campaign specifically targets children aged between two months and 59 months (just under five years old), a demographic considered most vulnerable to the poliovirus.
The comprehensive vaccination program intends to reach 4,425,502 children across 274 public health institutions. The campaign will be rolled out in three distinct phases:
– First Round: November 30 to December 6, 2025.
– Second Round: December 21 to December 27, 2025.
– Third Round: January 25 to January 31, 2026, utilizing the injected VPI vaccine.
The Ministry of Health has emphasized that all children within the designated age bracket are eligible and encouraged to participate in all three rounds of the vaccination campaign, without exception. This includes children who have previously received routine polio vaccinations. The campaign underscores the government’s commitment to eradicating polio and safeguarding the health of Algeria’s youngest citizens. Public health officials are urging parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the necessary vaccinations during the designated periods.
