The Algerian Ministry of Health has officially launched a national vaccination campaign against polio. The campaign aims to bolster public health and increase collective immunity among children.
The Minister of Health, Mohamed Sidik Ait Mesoudan, inaugurated the initiative today at the Public Health Institution in El Anasser, Kouba, starting at 9:30 AM. This nationwide campaign is designed to reach 4,425,502 children between the ages of two months and 59 months, the demographic most vulnerable to the disease. Vaccinations will be administered across 274 public health institutions.
The vaccination program will be implemented in three phases. The first phase is scheduled from November 30th to December 6th, 2025. The second phase will follow from December 21st to December 27th, 2025. The third phase, involving the injectable VPI vaccine, will take place from January 25th to January 31st, 2026.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that all children within the target age group are urged to participate in all three rounds of the campaign, regardless of their previous vaccination history. This comprehensive approach seeks to ensure maximum protection against polio and contribute to its eradication in Algeria.
The Ministry reiterated the importance of this campaign in safeguarding the health of Algerian children and preventing the resurgence of this debilitating disease. Parents and guardians are encouraged to cooperate fully with healthcare professionals to ensure the success of this vital public health initiative.
