The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have reportedly made territorial gains in South Kordofan, following clashes with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu. Military sources indicate that the army and allied forces advanced west of Al-Abbasiya Tagali in South Kordofan state.
According to military sources, the SAF has taken control of several key locations, including Al-Damra, Tibisa, Al-Murib, and Qardud Najama, after intense battles with the SPLM-N forces. The SPLM-N fighters are said to have withdrawn to the Tasi area within South Kordofan. These towns had allegedly been under SPLM-N control since 2011.
DZWatch has not yet received any official statement from the SPLM-N regarding the ongoing fighting. Videos circulating online purportedly show SAF soldiers celebrating the capture of Tibisa and Al-Damra, with citizens expressing their support.
These developments occur as the Sudanese army attempts to break the siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Babnusa, as well as to secure Kadugli, the state capital, and Al-Dilling. A military source also stated that the army repelled a fierce attack by the RSF on the headquarters of the 22nd Infantry Division in Babnusa, West Kordofan.
For weeks, the Kordofan region (North, West, and South) has witnessed escalating clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF, resulting in the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians.
Fighting was also reported yesterday west of Al-Abbasiya Tagali between the SAF and the RSF. The clashes reportedly led to the closure of the Al-Abbasiya-Rashad road, with sources claiming significant advances by the Sudanese army.
The situation in Kordofan is causing concern, with reports of looting and violence in areas like Al-Nuhud, highlighting the deteriorating security situation. DZWatch will continue to monitor and report on the evolving situation in Sudan.
