Algiers, Algeria – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamat Ali Youssouf, commended Algeria today for its constructive role during its tenure on the United Nations Security Council. Speaking in Algiers, Youssouf reiterated that Algeria remains a cornerstone of African diplomacy.
Youssouf’s remarks came during a high-level seminar on peace and security in Africa, highlighting Algeria’s commitment to fostering stability and cooperation across the continent. He specifically praised Algeria’s proactive engagement in addressing critical issues, contributing significantly to the Security Council’s deliberations and resolutions concerning African affairs.
“Algeria’s dedication to multilateralism and its unwavering support for African solutions to African problems has been evident throughout its Security Council membership,” Youssouf stated. “Its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and its advocacy for inclusive dialogue have been instrumental in shaping the international community’s response to various challenges facing the continent.”
The Chairperson also emphasized Algeria’s consistent efforts to promote sustainable development and economic growth in Africa. He noted that Algeria has actively championed initiatives aimed at strengthening regional integration, enhancing infrastructure development, and fostering intra-African trade.
“Algeria’s contributions extend beyond the Security Council,” Youssouf added. “Its leadership in promoting peace, security, and development within the African Union itself is highly valued and deeply appreciated.” The AU Commission Chairperson expressed confidence that Algeria would continue to play a pivotal role in advancing the African agenda on the global stage, serving as a vital bridge between Africa and the rest of the world. The seminar continues this week, with discussions focused on strengthening continental cooperation in addressing emerging threats to peace and security.
