Attaf Calls for African Solutions at ‘Oran Process’ Forum

Algiers – Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, today urged that the ‘Oran Process’ serve as an opportunity to reaffirm commitment and redouble efforts towards formulating African solutions to address the continent’s challenges.

Speaking at the International Conference Center in Algiers, Minister Attaf emphasized the importance of intra-African collaboration in tackling the root causes of instability and promoting sustainable peace and security across the continent.

“The ‘Oran Process’ provides a crucial platform for African nations to collectively diagnose the issues plaguing our continent and, more importantly, to devise and implement solutions that are tailored to our specific contexts and needs,” stated Minister Attaf. He further noted that relying on external actors for conflict resolution and development initiatives has often yielded unsatisfactory results, highlighting the necessity for African ownership and leadership.

The Minister’s remarks were made during a high-level conference on Peace and Security in Africa, convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and African Affairs. The conference brought together representatives from various African nations, regional organizations, and civil society groups to discuss strategies for preventing and resolving conflicts, promoting good governance, and fostering economic development.

The ‘Oran Process’, an initiative spearheaded by Algeria, aims to foster dialogue and cooperation among African nations on issues related to peace, security, and development. It seeks to build consensus on common challenges and promote the adoption of African-led solutions. The current forum is seen as a critical step in solidifying the ‘Oran Process’ as a central mechanism for addressing the continent’s multifaceted problems.

Minister Attaf concluded by reiterating Algeria’s commitment to supporting African-led initiatives and working collaboratively with other nations to build a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous Africa.
