Algiers – The President of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasri, has lauded the recent decisions announced by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during Sunday’s cabinet meeting, particularly those concerning the increase in the guaranteed minimum wage and unemployment benefits.
Speaking during a public session of the Council of the Nation dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the 2026 Finance Law, Nasri described the measures as “historic and unprecedented.” He stated that they reflect the state’s commitment, under the leadership of President Tebboune, to improving the living standards of citizens and addressing their aspirations.
Nasri emphasized President Tebboune’s role as the custodian of the people’s interests, acknowledging his understanding of their concerns. He affirmed that the decisions demonstrate a clear dedication to public welfare.
“These decisions will undoubtedly be a significant achievement for the President and his sound policies aimed at serving and comforting the citizens,” Nasri added.
The cabinet, under President Tebboune’s leadership, resolved on Sunday to raise the guaranteed minimum wage from 20,000 to 24,000 Algerian dinars, effective January 2026. In addition, unemployment benefits will increase from 15,000 to 18,000 dinars.
These measures are expected to have a significant impact on the purchasing power of low-income families and unemployed individuals across the country.
