Attaf Meets African Union Commission Chairperson in Algiers

Algiers, December 1, 2025 – Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, received Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, earlier today. The meeting took place in Algiers on the sidelines of the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, also known as the “Oran Process.”

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions centered on the evolving political and security landscape across the African continent. Both parties acknowledged the growing challenges posed by the increasingly complex international environment.

Particular attention was given to the situation in the Sahel region and the ongoing issue of Western Sahara. Minister Attaf and Chairperson Faki Mahamat exchanged views on these critical areas, emphasizing the important role of the African Union in addressing these challenges and promoting stability.

The meeting underscores Algeria’s continued commitment to fostering peace and security within the African continent and its active engagement with the African Union on key regional issues.
