The National Competition for the Algerian Prize for Memorization and Recitation of the Holy Quran has officially commenced. Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youssef Belmahdi, inaugurated the 21st edition of the competition at the ministry’s headquarters on Monday. The event is held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Approximately 120 participants are competing across three branches of the competition. The preliminary rounds are being conducted remotely over three days using video conferencing technology. A specialized panel of judges, experts in the rules of recitation and different readings, is overseeing the proceedings.
The competition encompasses several categories: the National Competition for Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Quran; the Encouragement Competition for Young Memorizers; and the International Competition for Memorization and Recitation of the Holy Quran.
The International Competition is scheduled to take place during the month of Rajab 1447 AH, coinciding with the commemoration of Isra and Mi’raj (the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension). The National Competition and the Encouragement Competition for Young Memorizers will be held during the holy month of Ramadan.
This Quranic event is part of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments’ ongoing efforts to promote the Holy Quran and encourage its memorization. The competition underscores the importance of the Quran in the religious and cultural life of Algeria. The ministry aims to further solidify Algeria’s commitment to Islamic values and traditions through such initiatives.
