Iran Reaffirms Nuclear Rights, Rejects External Pressure

Tehran today reiterated its right to nuclear knowledge, asserting that this right is guaranteed under international law and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Speaking at a weekly press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghaei, stated that his country’s position on the nuclear issue is clear. He emphasized that Iran’s nuclear activities are based on internationally recognized rights. Baghaei added that the nuclear file was initially presented illogically as a matter of international concern, while it inherently holds no problematic aspect.

He dismissed talk of a stalemate as unjustified, clarifying that the problem does not lie with Iran, but with policies based on pressure and force pursued by certain external parties. Baghaei stressed that the real solution lies in other countries recognizing Iran’s nuclear right under the treaty and refraining from interference and imposing unfounded demands.

He affirmed that Iran, like other member states, is committed to exercising its legal rights and fulfilling its obligations. This position, he noted, has been emphasized in all talks and negotiations with other parties.

In a related context, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, reiterated Tehran’s readiness to hold serious negotiations with Washington regarding the nuclear program. He emphasized that the results of these negotiations must not be predetermined by the United States.

Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, indicated his country’s willingness to reach a balanced agreement with Washington that takes into account the interests of both parties.

Previous rounds of nuclear talks, mediated by Oman, failed to produce decisive results. Subsequent discussions between the Iranian and European sides on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings last September also failed to resolve the nuclear issue.
