Oran Process Hailed for Fostering African Unity on Security

Algiers – Participants at the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa – the Oran Process – commended the initiative for its ongoing contribution to forging a unified African vision in addressing the continent’s challenges. The seminar took place on Monday at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Centre.

The Oran Process, a platform for dialogue and cooperation, has been instrumental in promoting African-led solutions to complex issues ranging from conflict resolution to counter-terrorism. Speakers at the seminar emphasized the importance of sustained engagement and collaborative efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability across the continent.

“The Oran Process has proven its value as a mechanism for fostering consensus and identifying common ground,” said one delegate. “Its continued relevance lies in its ability to bring together diverse perspectives and facilitate constructive dialogue.”

The seminar featured discussions on a range of critical topics, including the root causes of conflict, the role of regional organizations in peacebuilding, and the challenges posed by transnational crime and violent extremism. Participants also explored strategies for strengthening governance, promoting inclusive development, and addressing the humanitarian consequences of conflict.

The Oran Process, initiated several years ago, aims to empower African states to take ownership of their security agenda and build stronger partnerships to address shared threats. The initiative underscores the importance of African solidarity and collective action in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous future for the continent. The seminar served as a crucial forum for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and reaffirming the commitment to African solutions for African problems.
