The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has lauded Algeria’s significant advancements in both the economic and social spheres. He described Algeria’s progress as a potential model for development across the African continent.
Speaking to the press following a meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Youssouf stated, “I had the honor of being received by the President of Algeria and listened to him at length. He possesses vast experience and keen insight into how to develop Algeria economically and socially, which could serve as a model for Africa.”
He further added, “I listened to the President of the Republic regarding Algeria’s perspective on the crises plaguing the African continent, particularly in the Sahel region.” He noted that he benefited from the President’s vision on how to resolve these challenges.
Mr. Youssouf also emphasized the Commission’s commitment to implementing reforms within the African Union’s operational framework. This includes enhancing the performance of its various bodies, such as the African Police Cooperation Mechanism (AFRIPOL), which is headquartered in Algeria. The aim is to make these institutions proactive in finding African solutions to African problems.
The Chairperson concluded by highlighting the importance of his visit to Algeria and its resulting outcomes. He affirmed that the Commission will continue to collaborate with Algeria in the service of the African continent and its shared interests.
