Algiers – Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf met today with Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of events held at the International Conference Center.
The meeting focused on the latest developments in the Western Sahara issue, considering rapid regional and international changes. Both ministers exchanged analyses and perspectives on recent efforts undertaken at the United Nations level.
Both parties emphasized the importance of continued efforts to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, including the recent Security Council Resolution 9727, considered a significant step in reaffirming the international legal framework for the conflict.
During the discussions, Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s unwavering position in support of a solution based on international legitimacy, guaranteeing the Sahrawi people their legitimate rights, away from any imposed reality. He also praised the historical relations between the two countries, stressing continued diplomatic coordination to support the UN process.
The Sahrawi Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Algeria’s steadfast positions, highlighting the importance of Algerian diplomatic support in bolstering efforts aimed at completing the decolonization process in Western Sahara.
This meeting takes place at a sensitive time for the Western Sahara issue, reaffirming the renewed commitment to cooperation between the two parties and support for the UN settlement process.
