Doctoral Entrance Exam Date Set by Higher Education Ministry

Algiers – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced that the entrance examination for doctoral studies will be held on December 26th. The Ministry confirmed that universities across the nation are prepared to welcome candidates in various disciplines.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Baddari, revealed a series of decisions and organizational measures aimed at improving student conditions and developing the training system within Algerian universities. He emphasized the ongoing commitment to modernizing the structures and legislation related to the sector.

One key announcement was the extension of the deadline for submitting and defending doctoral theses until the end of 2026. This extension aims to provide researchers with sufficient time to complete their scholarly work under favorable conditions.

The Ministry is also open to approving the creation of new academic specializations within universities, including Islamic Sciences, based on the needs of the institutions and increasing student demand. This responsiveness reflects the Ministry’s commitment to aligning university offerings with the evolving needs of the job market and student interests.

Furthermore, the criteria for appointments to various positions within the sector are under continuous review. Minister Baddari stated that efforts will be made to revise the titles of university degrees to enable holders to participate in a wider range of competitions.

In a move to protect students’ rights, the Minister instructed that legal proceedings against students be prohibited without prior authorization from the Ministry, within the limits allowed by law. This measure is intended to safeguard students engaged in responsible student activism.

Regarding the possibility of allowing graduates from continuing education programs to pursue higher studies (Master’s and Doctorate degrees), the Minister clarified that this is contingent upon the approval of the Public Service authorities, due to a legal impediment that needs to be resolved before any decision can be implemented.

Minister Baddari also revealed that the number of university graduates in 2025 is projected to reach 347,789, including 1,969 graduates.
