Sudanese Army Thwarts RSF Attack on Babnusa

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have announced the successful repulsion of an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the strategic city of Babnusa in West Kordofan. This development follows claims by the SAF of significant advancements across multiple fronts in both West and South Kordofan states.

According to a statement released by the SAF spokesperson’s office, the RSF has been persistently targeting Babnusa with artillery fire and drone strikes, despite their leader’s declared unilateral ceasefire. The army characterized the RSF’s truce as a deceptive political and media maneuver intended to mask ongoing field operations and the continuous flow of external support fueling the conflict.

“The so-called ceasefire is nothing but a ploy,” the statement asserted, “designed to cover up their movements on the ground and the influx of foreign support, which only serves to escalate the war and cause further bloodshed among the Sudanese people.”

The SAF reiterated its commitment to international humanitarian law, emphasizing its dedication to protecting civilians and facilitating humanitarian aid. The statement warned against exploiting the humanitarian situation as a cover for military actions that exacerbate the crisis. The SAF vowed to continue fulfilling its duty to protect the state and its citizens with utmost responsibility and competence.

Earlier reports indicated that the SAF and allied forces had inflicted substantial blows on RSF strongholds, achieving significant gains in West and South Kordofan. Military sources confirmed that aerial bombardments had successfully targeted RSF positions.

Furthermore, a military source within the SAF reported that army and supporting forces had advanced west of Al-Abbasiya Tagali in South Kordofan, seizing control of the towns of Al-Damra, Tibisa, Al-Murayb, and Qardud. This followed clashes with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, which is allied with the RSF. The source indicated that SPLM-N forces had retreated to the Tasi area in South Kordofan. The SPLM-N had controlled these towns since 2011.

The army is currently focused on breaking the RSF’s siege of Babnusa and Madi.
