Alger, Algeria – Several provinces across Algeria are experiencing significant weather disturbances today, including heavy thunderstorms, substantial snowfall, and strong winds. The national weather service issued a special bulletin detailing the expected conditions.
The province of Tamanrasset is currently under a heavy rainfall advisory. Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 20 and 40 millimeters, potentially leading to localized flooding. This advisory remains in effect until midday today.
Another special bulletin warns of continued heavy thunderstorms in the provinces of Illizi and Djanet, with rainfall accumulations potentially reaching up to 40 millimeters. These conditions are expected to persist until 9:00 PM this evening.
Starting at 9:00 PM, the weather disturbances are forecast to extend westward, impacting the provinces of Chlef, Relizane, Tiaret, Mostaganem, Mascara, Oran, Sidi Bel Abbes, Ain Temouchent, and Tlemcen. These regions can anticipate considerable thunderstorms that may continue until dawn on Wednesday.
In addition to the rainfall, heavy snowfall is predicted for the western highlands, particularly in the province of Tlemcen, beginning at midnight and lasting through the early morning hours.
The provinces of Oran and Ain Temouchent are also bracing for strong winds starting at 9:00 PM tonight. These conditions may lead to disruptions in both road and maritime traffic.
Citizens are urged to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to snowfall and rising water levels. The weather service advises taking necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize potential disruptions caused by the severe weather.
