Algeria, Belarus Explore Enhanced Mechanical Industries Cooperation

Algiers, December 2, 2025 – Algeria and Belarus are exploring avenues to bolster cooperation in the mechanical industries sector. This follows a high-level meeting in Algiers between Algerian Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, and a Belarusian delegation comprising Minister of Industry, Andrei Kuznetsov, and Minister of Agriculture and Food, Yuri Golov.

The discussions centered on strengthening industrial and agricultural collaboration, aiming to forge new partnerships and deepen economic integration between the two nations. Opportunities for cooperation within the industrial sphere were a key focus, particularly in mechanical industries. This includes agricultural equipment and machinery, wheat processing technologies, and the construction of iron silos for grain storage.

Specific areas of interest encompass the production of high-powered tractors and machinery, vehicles and equipment for mining and industrial applications, and heavy-duty trucks. Minister Bachir emphasized the importance of realizing a concrete partnership with Belarus in the manufacturing of tractors and agricultural machinery through the Algerian Mechanical Group (AGM). He also advocated for expanding partnerships into other sectors such as plastics, chemicals, electrical appliances, and iron and steel, encouraging Belarusian subcontractors and spare parts manufacturers to invest in Algeria.

Belarusian Minister Kuznetsov reaffirmed his country’s commitment to establishing joint production units with AGM in the mechanical industries sector. He stressed the significance of fostering cooperation in knowledge and technology transfer to improve productivity and industrial efficiency in Algeria. Furthermore, he expressed Belarus’s interest in investing in the textile sector in partnership with Algerian entities, with a focus on meeting domestic market needs and expanding export capabilities.

Beyond the industrial domain, the two sides explored opportunities for collaboration in the agricultural sector, particularly in dairy production, grain cultivation, meat production, and seed development. This cooperation aims to enhance integration between the two countries and support the development of agricultural production chains and national food security. Further announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
