Krikou Emphasizes Judiciary’s Vital Role in Environmental Protection

Tipaza – Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kaouther Krikou, underscored the pivotal role of the judiciary in combating and deterring environmental offenses. Her remarks were made Tuesday in Tipaza, highlighting the direct impact such offenses have on the stability of citizens’ lives and their surroundings.

Minister Krikou emphasized that a strong and effective judicial system is crucial in enforcing environmental laws and holding perpetrators accountable. She stressed that the protection of the environment is not solely the responsibility of the Ministry, but requires a collaborative effort involving all sectors of society, with the judiciary playing a leading role in ensuring compliance.

“The judiciary’s involvement is not just about punishment,” Krikou stated. “It’s about prevention, education, and creating a culture of respect for the environment. By imposing appropriate sanctions, the courts send a clear message that environmental crimes will not be tolerated.”

The Minister further elaborated on the need for specialized training for judges and prosecutors to enhance their understanding of environmental law and the complexities of environmental crimes. This training, she argued, will enable them to effectively investigate and prosecute offenders, ensuring that justice is served.

Krikou’s statements come at a time of increasing concern over environmental degradation and the need for stronger enforcement of environmental regulations. The Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life has pledged to work closely with the judiciary to strengthen environmental protection efforts and ensure a sustainable future for Algeria.
