Guyana Praises Algeria’s Leadership Role at UN Security Council

Algiers, Algeria – The Republic of Guyana has lauded Algeria’s leading role within the United Nations Security Council, emphasizing the positive impact of its contributions to international peace and security. This commendation came during a meeting held on Tuesday between Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations in New York, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.

The meeting occurred on the sidelines of Algeria’s hosting of the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, known as the “Oran Process.” During their discussion, Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett expressed her satisfaction with the close coordination and ongoing consultations between Algeria and Guyana during their respective tenures on the UN Security Council.

According to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Guyanese Ambassador specifically praised Algeria’s distinguished and pioneering role within the Security Council. She highlighted Algeria’s success in unifying and amplifying the voice of the three African nations serving on the council. This was achieved in close collaboration with Guyana, representing the Caribbean region, within the group now known as the A3+.

“Algeria’s commitment to fostering collaboration and consensus-building within the Security Council has been truly remarkable,” a diplomatic source stated. “Their efforts to represent African interests and work constructively with other regional groups, like the Caribbean, have significantly contributed to the council’s effectiveness.”

The A3+ group, consisting of the three African members of the Security Council plus a rotating member from the Caribbean, aims to promote African perspectives and solutions to peace and security challenges on the global stage. Algeria’s leadership within this group has been instrumental in shaping the council’s agenda and driving progress on key issues affecting the African continent.
