Algeria Eyes Specialized Medical Partnerships with Belarus

Algiers, December 2, 2025 – Algeria is seeking to strengthen its healthcare sector through strategic partnerships with Belarus, focusing on highly specialized medical fields. This initiative aims to improve the quality of healthcare services and enhance patient outcomes across the country.

The Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Mesoudane, met with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Valerievich Khajayo, at the Ministry headquarters on Tuesday. The meeting, attended by senior officials from both administrations, served as a platform to discuss the current state of their respective healthcare systems, identify commonalities, and explore areas of mutual interest.

Discussions centered on addressing healthcare needs and priorities, with a particular emphasis on improving the quality of care for citizens and boosting the effectiveness of health services. Minister Ait Mesoudane proposed strengthening collaboration in specialized medical areas, including pediatric cardiac surgery, ophthalmology, and neurology. He also highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to advance healthcare services, improve performance, develop health clusters, and support community-based healthcare policies.

The Belarusian Minister of Health expressed strong interest in enhancing healthcare cooperation with Algeria, particularly in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology, and medical training. He suggested organizing remote meetings and reciprocal site visits to foster ongoing coordination and knowledge exchange.

To facilitate these collaborations, a bilateral committee comprising central directors from both the Algerian and Belarusian Ministries of Health will be established. This committee will be responsible for developing a practical roadmap outlining areas for exchanging expertise and knowledge, especially in specialized medical fields. The committee will also explore cooperation in digitalization and telemedicine, with a focus on AI-powered radiology and medical imaging, with the goal of deploying these advanced technologies in remote and underserved areas to improve healthcare access.

Both sides affirmed that these steps will unlock promising opportunities for healthcare cooperation between Algeria and Belarus, providing a strong impetus for a partnership that aligns with their shared ambitions and delivers tangible benefits to both healthcare systems.
