Algiers – The separatist group MAC (Movement for the Autonomy of Kabylie) is reportedly facing a rapid decline as key leaders and members defect, alleging the organization has become a tool for foreign agendas against Algeria. Defectors claim MAC is manipulated by Moroccan and Zionist intelligence services to execute destructive schemes targeting the Algerian state.
Former MAC leader Zahir Ben Ajaoud stated his defection stemmed from the organization’s plan to send fighters for military training in the Zionist entity. He described MAC leader Ferhat Mehenni as a traitor, adopting a violent, terrorist rhetoric. Ben Ajaoud highlighted the familial disruption caused by MAC in the Kabylie region, contrasting it with the wealth and investments enjoyed by the leaders’ families in France. He further alleged widespread corruption within the organization.
According to Ben Ajaoud, Moroccan intelligence exerts significant control over MAC, tracing the relationship back to 2000 when Mehenni received an official invitation from Morocco. He also asserted that Morocco holds MAC members hostage to pressure the organization.
Ider Goudar, another defector, claims MAC has become a mere instrument of the Moroccan government, alleging that Mehenni receives 250,000 euros monthly from Moroccan sources.
These revelations point to a deeper crisis within MAC, raising serious questions about its leadership, funding, and ultimate goals. The allegations of foreign influence and betrayal have further damaged the group’s credibility and fueled calls for accountability.
